What is copyright?

Copyright is based on a simple idea - people who create, produce or invest in creative works should be those who decide on how these creations are used and released to the public.

Copyright law says that copyright owners’ rights are allowed to establish terms regarding copying, distribution and dissemination of their works. This gives talented people an incentive to continue, and gives entrepreneurs the economic reasons to invest in creative works.

Copyright is an extraordinary economic foundation for tens of millions of jobs worldwide. And also has a significant contribution to state budgets. According to the latest estimates in Europe and the U.S., the financial value of copyright-based industries is of 360 billion Euros, 430 billion dollars respectively, which represents more than 5% of GDP.

The amplitude of artistic and cultural developments existing today would not be possible without strong copyright protections that already have a tradition for several decades.
