Music Industry Association of Romania


AIMR is primarily aimed at preventing acts of piracy; identifying penal acts that damage music industry in Romania and acting in order to prosecute persons responsible for infringement of copyright and related rights. In this regard, AIMR is representing the rights and interests of main record companies in Romania and abroad, represented in Romania.

In 2008, AIMR became an independent association, previously working as the anti-piracy department's UPFR.

AIMR received support from International Federation of the Phonographic Industry and the AIMR will soon receive recognition as IFPI National Group in Romania.

AIMR is empowered to act on behalf of its members in all cases of violation of their rights under the Law no. 8/ 1996 , to support media and communication campaigns, organize seminars, debates and studies on national legislation and international legal and administrative strategies for prevention and protection of copyright, to support the training of specialists or technical experts in the field piracy and to propose legislative changes.

The two directions on which AIMR will act in first phase will be:

1. Legal field - to fight against piracy; see: Anti-Piracy Action

2. Educational field – to make accessible the law and also available legal options regarding access to the music; see materials: for parents, for teachers, and how to listen to music legally.
